REMOTE RELAY / TWELVE SHIFTS

Quietshift

Keep the signal going. Read what the machine cannot tell you.

Your watch

Deliver at least 16 packets in 12 shifts, with at most 2 outages. You have 9 maintenance credits. The relay’s health is hidden and can deteriorate after running.

Run: uses a shift, delivers 2 packets if successful. Inspect: costs 1 credit, gives a more reliable clue without using a shift; once per shift. Service: costs 3 credits and a shift, restores healthy state. No packets during service.

The belief bars combine the entire signal history using a hidden Markov model. A green light is evidence, not proof. Successful runs also update the belief.

Indicator

Estimated outage risk is for the next run. Healthy/worn/faulty success chances are 98% / 65% / 15%. Health never improves by itself.

The watch log

How the hidden model works

Health transitions happen after running. Inspection provides an independent, more reliable diagnostic; service resets health. The next routine indicator updates belief before each decision. These fictional probabilities are fully specified, not learned from you.
